The Urban League of the Upstate is seeking an energetic and positive, experienced, and entrepreneurial President & CEO to lead the organization into an exciting future and to raise the visibility of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The President & CEO will join a team that is proud to serve its mission and is fully committed to implementing the goal of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the President & CEO serves as the chief administrator, directing the day-to-day operations and providing effective and dynamic leadership. He or she will develop and communicate a strong vision including short- and long-range objectives, plans, and policies for implementation.As the principal spokesperson, the President & CEO will demonstrate wisdom and diplomacy in managing internal and external politics. He/She will actively stay abreast of issues facing the African-American and minority community, and work diligently to improve the economic, cultural, social, and educational conditions affecting all citizens in Upstate South Carolina. Essential to the President & CEO's characteristics is an innate passion for social justice in the community - having that at the heart of everything he/she does in advancement of the Urban League of the Upstate's mission and vision.KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:Community Visibility and ImpactExecute a strategy that will enhance the Urban League's image, visibility, and profile in order to bolster awareness in support of mission, programs, and services.* Support the organization's practice of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusiveness as the cornerstone of Urban League's work and identity.* Serve as an exemplary Urban League advocate with external stakeholders; build relationships that closely link the community to the Urban League of the Upstate.* Ensure ability and readiness to convey key messages and information in a timely and appropriate manner to all internal and external stakeholders.* Identify opportunities to be out in the community networking and speaking about mission, programs, and services available.* Maintain liaison with community groups and agencies to ensure all activities that impact the community are well-planned and coordinated.* Initiate and maintain strong relationships with staff, board, political, corporate, and community leaders.Strategic LeadershipWith support of the Board Chair, lead the vision and planning efforts, identifying short- and long-range goals that will enable organization and mission advancement. Provide day to day leadership by administering efforts that are in line with the business plan and vision for growth. Build followership by establishing trust through intentional efforts to collaborate, maintain transparency, seek feedback, actively listen, and uphold an unwavering belief and passion for the work being conducted.* Recruit, develop and leverage a strong board that supports mission, organizational growth, and improvement opportunities.* Provide and implement practical strategies that will advance social justice within the community and ensure inclusion of all.* Conduct research and analysis of community and constituents' needs to inform the planning process and help identify growth areas. Evaluate current programs and services provided, seeking input from internal and external stakeholders.* Establish measurable goals and benchmarks in order to track progress and ensure business is moving in sync.* Utilize a data driven decision making into regular management and program review meetings to inform program development and potential modifications.* Monitor and stay current on trends and policy issues that could affect organizational impact and its constituents. Stays in alignment with the national office ensuring best practices are achieved and expectations met.Resource and Fund DevelopmentLead efforts to identify and develop fundraising strategies and opportunities that will position the affiliate for growth, ensure a positive impact on revenue, and allow for fundraising to become a pathway to social change.* Launch the planning and execution of grant proposals, annual campaigns, United Way partnership, and additional corporate partnership outreach.* Work with the Board and additional stakeholders to identify new funding opportunities for service programs and other growth areas.* Monitor and track fundraising benchmarks to ensure goals are met and anticipated results achieved; provide accurate and timely financial reports to funding sources.* Create, oversee, and participate in active stewardship of funding partners to deepen relationships and expand opportunities.* Provides complete, accurate and timely financial reports to board and funding sources.Talent and Team DevelopmentEnsure staff members are efficiently functioning in their roles, while empowering each to perform at their highest level.* Cultivate team buy-in, commitment, and teamwork through trust, alignment, accountability, and acknowledging team accomplishments.* Empower and develop teams with diverse skill sets to competitively strive for improved solutions.* Implement tools to evaluate staff growth and progress, providing performance appraisals, training and developmental opportunities as needed.* Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and benefits that will impact team members.Fiscal Oversight & OperationProvide strategic oversight of finance and accounting to ensure effective system and accuracy of internal financial controls.* Partner with the board in strategic financial planning and development of annual budget.* Provide leadership and oversight to ensure timely and accurate preparation and dissemination of program and financial reports as needed for key stakeholders.* Monitor fiscal administration to ensure accordance with Standards of Accounting for Voluntary Non-Profit Organizations and Agencies.* Identify and implement new processes, and systems that will improve workflow and organizational procedures.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONSoft Skill Requirements* Executive presence with a strong commitment to organizational values and mission.* Ability to inspire confidence, lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of excellence.* Instinctively demonstrates humility and empathy.* Strong project management and time management skills.* Demonstrated ability to develop trusting relationships, cultivate a network, and build social-political savvy.* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to excellent listening skills. A natural ability to collaborate.* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.* Ability to design and effectively articulate vision and strategy.* Possess high emotional intelligence with a strong level of self-awareness.Education and Experience* 5-10 years progressive organizational leadership experience.* BA degree required with masters preferred, in business administration, public administration, education, social work, human resource administration, finance, or a related discipline.* 5 years of experience in business management, personnel management, strategic planning, fiscal management, program development and administration, or a combination of the above.* Strong supervisory experience and leadership skills.* Track record of building, coaching, and mentoring high performance teams.* 4 years of experience working with a volunteer board, diverse stakeholders, as well as other community leadership experience.* Prior experience within the Urban League Movement is desirable.
