Business Development Manager (Cold Chain Packaging) - Remote (East Coast)
Position Overview
Responsible for selling temperature-controlled packaging solutions for life sciences, healthcare, and other industries. Selling sustainable products is within scope of this position. The Business Development Manager understands how to create revenue by initiating and driving complex deals from lead stage to contract execution. The successful candidate will know how to create and develop relationships with senior level executives (e.g., sustainability officers, buyers) at large global companies and work effectively in a collaborative, team-based company. The successful candidate will have a proven track-record of consistently meeting sales objectives and margin quotas.
This position will report directly to the Sr. Director of Business Development and will have sales responsibility for landing new accounts for cold chain packaging solutions. Target customers can be anywhere in the US, but the ideal candidate would be located on the East Coast as their focus area.
Primary Functions & Responsibilities

  • Align with Sr. Director of Business Development on how to achieve your goals and provide regularly scheduled updates on progress towards the goals
  • Reach quarterly and annual sales targets (Quota and KPIs) through new customer acquisitions
  • Manage an effective sales funnel with a continual flow of prospects entering and moving through the sales lifecycle
  • Ensure pipelines are up to date and that leads and target areas for team are clear and provided.
  • Create opportunities with outbound prospecting, trade shows and industry conferences
  • Develop strong executive level customer relationships to facilitate stronger strategic growth opportunities
  • Quarterback internal resources and manage prospect expectations to drive opportunities in a timely and professional manner
  • Develop win themes, present solutions, and understand how to negotiate complex deals to close
  • Lead customer contract negotiations, including supply agreements and pricing adjustments
  • Create customer and product value propositions that enhance company's ability to price to value
  • Submit any special reports regarding the operation of a channel, acceptance of products, or competitive conditions as requested
  • Successfully hand off new won business to Account management team once initial work is delivered

    Education and Experience

    • BS/BA in Engineering, Business, or related subject or equivalent experience required
    • 5+ years progressive temperature-controlled packaging sales experience required.
    • New business development experience managing multiple product categories/customers required
    • Demonstrated knowledge of product management, sales, sales process, trade, category management and supplier/customer management as well as proven ability to apply them effectively in planning and execution
    • Demonstrated use of multiple information sources to develop sales strategies and tactics as well as effectively managing promotional activity and trade spending
    • Proven track record of delivering consistent results
    • Utilized CRM to record key metrics on opportunities and pipeline reporting
    • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
    • Strong business/financial acumen
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Aptitude to interpret/use multiple information sources to develop customer-specific tactical plans and options
    • Excellent communication (verbal & written), presentations, and time management skills required
    • Entrepreneurial mindset to execute with velocity, adapt as needed, and drive for financial results; self-motivated
    • Ability to function in a team environment
    • Experience in project/trade spending management

      Preferred Experience/Qualifications

      • 5+ years progressive sales leadership / account management positions
      • Temperature-controlled packaging for life sciences, healthcare and other industries
      • Experience with multiple top-tier life science, healthcare customers, categories, and products
      • Private label and national brand experience
      • Built new channels from the ground floor
      • Must be able to travel up to 50 percent of work time.
      • Ability to work flexible hours or occasionally on weekends with short notice depending on customer deliverables.
      • Typical office environment with shelves overhead and above work surfaces.
