Function/General Purpose of PositionThe Speech Language Pathologist
is a registered professional who evaluates plans, directs and
administers programs of speech therapy upon referral by the
physician. He/she will deliver services consistent with
Rehabilitation Services policies and procedures.Employment
QualificationsEducation: Must be a graduate of an accredited
program. Successful completion of appropriate Connect Care training
modules for position/location. Experience: No experience
required.Licensure, Registration, or Certification: Must be
licensed or eligible for licensure in state of South Carolina.
Rehab Services encourages participation in advanced clinical
practice.Essential Job FunctionsDemonstrates basic knowledge of
diagnoses seen in Speech Language Pathologist (here after
SLP).Performs accurate evaluations, tests, and measurements.
Documentation should reflect the need for skilled intervention and
continued need for therapeutic services.Identifies short and
long-term goals, rehabilitation potential, and estimates necessary
length of SLP intervention.Selects appropriate therapeutic
procedures and treatment diagnosis that supports medical necessity
therefore maximizing patient outcomes.Consults with patients,
families, and interdisciplinary team to design the plan of care and
goals.Demonstrates basic skill level in the delivery of SLP
procedures.Reassess patient status on an ongoing basis and revises
goals and treatment plans as indicated.Participates in discharge
planning.Teaches and communicates with patients, families, and
interdisciplinary team to achieve SLP goals.Documents all aspects
of assessment planning and treatment in the medical record in a
timely and quality manner. Ensures adequacy of physician\s orders
and appropriateness of diagnosis.Completes patient charges in a
timely/accurate manner. Understands CPT codes and regulations
associated with them to include - non-timed procedures, appropriate
use of group, and modifiers.Adheres to Bon Secours St. Francis
Health rules, regulations and policies; assists in monitoring
quality improvement, infection control and safety standards.
Notifies director of problems with current processes and helps to
develop and implement corrective action to ensure departmental
effectiveness.Provides supervision of professional staff and
support personnel as outlined in organizational chart; provides
orientation of new personnel, students and/or volunteers;
facilitates staff development/competency programs; participates in
the staff retention and recruitment activities.Participate in inter
and intra-departmental in-service training; participates in task
forces as directed by Director; alerts Director of problems
identified with departmental processes and assists in rectifying
problems and creating new processes as indicated; attends meetings
as requested by Director.Attends staff meetings/huddles for the
purpose of revising policy, discussing problems, continuing
education, etc. Participates in task forces or other hospital-wide
committees as requested by Director. Acts as a liaison between
other departments, medical staff, etc.Prepare, present and
participate in educational programs as assigned by the Director.
Assists in marketing and program development activities for Rehab
Services. Achieves and maintains BLS certification Adheres to Bon
Secours St. Francis Rehab professional behavior policy.May require
local travel. Special Note : Demonstrates the knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients
served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and
development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess
data reflective of the patient\s status and interprets the
appropriate information needed to identify each patient\s
requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to
provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and
procedures. Patient population served : Provides patient care to
neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Other

for licensure of the state in which he/she practices.Maintains
professional development by participating in literature review,
current trends, professional affiliations, conferences and
lectures, etc.Provides excellent customer service for internal and
external customers.Participates in process improvement education
and activities as requested.Maintains professional behavior
according to standards and policy.Other duties as assigned by
Director.Working ConditionsFrequently subject to varying and
unpredictable stressful situations.Requires judgment/action which
could result in death of patient. Occasionally perform emergency
care. Handles emergency and crisis situations.Be able to operate
computer to implement orders and communicate information.Any duties
that are required to maintain good patient care and maintain safety
of area.Frequent public contact.Staff has access to storage areas
with minimal risk medications while performing job duties as
assigned.Handles oxygen and may disconnect oxygen from the portable
tank and insert into the wall oxygen. The amount of oxygen will be
determined by handoff communication or review of physician
order.Travels outside the office in all weather conditions. Special
Note : The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate
coming into contact with human blood and other potentially
infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to
exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment
and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
Special Note : The individual performing this job may be exposed to
radiation. A radiation badge will be issued to those having planned
exposed to radiation per the imagining dept. Additional protective
equipment is available and is to be worn (apron, goggles,
