Shift Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Typically requires 2 years of
experience in a laboratory-related position. License: Medical
Technologist (MT) certification or Medical Laboratory Scientist
(MLS) certification from the American Society for Clinical
Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or Medical Technologist
(MT) certification from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Certifications: Required certification in relevant fields.
Must-Have: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal
communication skills. Description: Acts as a resource and role
model to employees. Provides day-to-day work direction and training
to staff. Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of
work. Monitors productivity and maintains appropriate staffing
levels. Directs efforts and provides guidance on complex issues.
Assists with human resource responsibilities, including
interviewing and selection of new employees. Facilitates staff
development and resolution of employee concerns. Interprets
department policies and procedures and advises staff on changes.
Performs duties of technical and support staff as needed. Ensures
implementation and maintenance of quality, efficiency, and safety
in the section. Maintains accreditation standards on a continual
basis. Demonstrates initiative in problem tracking and resolution.
Continually checks accuracy of processes, test methods, and
instruments. Reviews results and clerical errors before reporting.
Assigns work for the section and assists in workload evaluations.
Delegates authority and responsibility as appropriate. Participates
in writing and reviewing policies and procedures. Serves as a staff
resource for technical and administrative policies. Documents
accurate information for quality assurance and improvement.
Utilizes laboratory information systems properly. Verifies
specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Performs
internal and external proficiency testing. Provides direction and
technical assistance to staff. Assists in developing education and
training protocols. Instructs students, residents, and new
caregivers as assigned. Aims to improve quality and efficiency of
laboratory procedures and processes. Ensures compliance with all
accrediting agency standards. Maintains effective communication to
enhance department performance. Supports change efforts within the
organization for successful implementation. Demonstrates ability to
handle stressful situations calmly and professionally. Works a
flexible schedule which may include alternate site assignments.
Frequently lifts up to 10 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Must
be able to sit, stand, and walk for most of the workday. May be
exposed to various hazardous agents and human body fluids. Must
wear appropriate protective gear as needed. Operates all necessary
equipment to perform job duties effectively. Requirements Required
