Ultrasound Technologist

Job Description:

Summary/Objective

The Ultrasound Technologist uses imaging equipment that non-invasively emits sound waves directed towards internal organs, blood vessels, tissues and other structures. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing all ultrasound procedures including vascular studies at the clinic and works closely with the radiologist and other licensed physicians presenting images and data for interpretation and assisting with interventional procedures.

Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Explain ultrasound procedures to patients so they feel comfortable with the experience.
  2. Maintain and control all ultrasound equipment.
  3. Perform ultrasounds on 10-15 patients per day, on average.
  4. Take sonogram still images and video for physician and patients.
  5. Notify Physicians of any abnormalities or concerns immediately.
  6. Chart ultrasound results.
  7. Soothe and reassure nervous or anxious patients.
  8. Prepares and electronically transmits images to outside radiologist.
  9. Maintains PACS
  10. Receives and reports radiology reports and reports critical findings to healthcare team.
  11. Starts IV's, obtains vital signs, discharges patients, conducts triage and various other clinical duties to assist primary clinical staff.
  12. Maintains equipment including sterilization of endo-cavitary probes and equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, voice dictation, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time.

Travel

Minimal travel is expected.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Associate degree in diagnostic medical sonography.
  2. 1-year vascular experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. RDMS registered.

  1. RVT registered.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

None required for this position.
