The senior R (Research and development) engineer with a strong background in electrical motor design to support the development of integral gear motors for the Dodge business. It involves collaborating with Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, and other functional teams to fully support the business team culture and goals. The primary objective is to be the technology leader for the motor portion of the enclosed gear business and to develop the necessary technologies to support the strategic needs to enhance the gearmotor platform. Your responsibilities Develop custom motor products that are based on existing designs in the range of fractional to 50 HP for use in integral gear applications. The primary tool of use is an in-house electrical design tool and the primary motor technology is three-phase alternating current induction designs (AC motors) and could include some level of PM or PM assisted technology. Understand and apply standards to achieve designs suitable for standard and food regulated location environments: global IEC-Ex and ATEX standards, and other local standards. Work with the Dodge Certifications Engineer as well as third party certifiers to achieve required certifications and ensure compliance with all safety and integrity rules and regulations within the function. Ensure product designs are cost-effective, meet the specifications and performance requirements through the practical application of engineering, design principles, and industry standards. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, disciplined, and able to perform effectively against clearly defined goals and objectives that directly contribute to profitable growth in the organization. Ensure appropriate design processes and reviews are used and ask Questions and seek opportunities to simplify and transform the team's culture from "Yes, but" to "Yes and" /"Yes what if" conversations. Mitigate risks by moving as fast as possible and as slow as needed - taking calculated risks in the pursuit of results & proactively share success and failure with transparency and reapply to learn across the team. Enable collaboration by aligning the team plan with plans of other teams, effectively handling dependencies, to increase overall efficiency. Your background Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering AND 10 years of industrial experience OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineerring AND 8 years of industrial experience. *A Master's Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience OR *A Ph.D. (Doctor of philosophy) /Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience. Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in United States. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors in Electrical Engineering with experience in product development and customer order engineering experience and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt methodology and certification is a plus. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other modeling tools desired and exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skill. Highly collaborative results-oriented change agent with strong analytic skills with an emphasis on critical thinking, root cause analysis, and problem-solving. Strong communication and presentation skills and demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for ideas.
