Benefitfocus is searching for a Consultant to join our Customer Service team. This is a remote role. The Consultant is the main point of contact for Benefitfocus clients during the onboarding process and is responsible for creating and managing project plans, gathering requirements, testing and delivery of requirements and weekly status updates for clients. The Consultant works directly with our Carrier client as well as their groups to ensure successful implementation and hand-off into a production environment. You will be working in a fun, engaging environment where every associate can participate in continuing education activities while staying current with the latest technology available


  • Project owner responsible for the delivery of simple to medium Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) projects on behalf of employers
  • Facilitate project kickoff calls, discovery sessions, test planning calls, and testing status calls with clients and carriers throughout the SDLC.
  • Analyze carrier account structures, carrier companion guides, file requirements, and other project collateral to ensure EDI is implemented on time and with high quality
  • Develop and/or update file requirements that will be used by engineering to build the EDI
  • Configure carrier account structures with minimal support from senior consultants
  • Support senior consultants with testing where needed.
  • Report defects identified during the SDLC and coordinate resolution cross functionally
  • Provides after hours coverage in a rotation during open enrollment season
  • Primary point of contact and EDI SME for all internal and external project stakeholders
  • Identify, eliminate, and resolve risks that would prevent the projects from hitting major milestones

Required Skills:

  • 1-2 years Benefits Administration experience
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills
  • Capable of managing scope creep to ensure project deliverables are met
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the project team throughout the implementation process.
  • Solid experience in analyzing and understanding requirement documents
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with test planning and test execution

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Participated in process improvement initiatives and a subject matter expert for specific skills/ processes.
  • 1-2 years Benefitfocus experience
  • Experience using, Salesforce, Confluence, JIRA, SFTP
