Construction Assistant Job Description: The Construction Assistant (CA) is responsible for assisting the Project Manager (PM) in keeping the construction schedule moving forward efficiently, through job site visits and office administrative tasks. Must be proficient with basic punch list labor, computers/tablets/smartphones (including verbal, text, and email communications), and have the ability to read/understand architectural plans and details. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for this position. This is an hourly, non exempt position. Normal company hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 with a -- hour lunch break per day. Hourly rate of $19.60-$27.00 including benefits. Job Mission: The primary responsibility of all OCI Craftspersons is to ensure that all work performed by the company represents us well. Operating Hours: Normal operating hours for OCI are 8:00AM - 5:00PM with a mandatory 1/2 hour break per day, for a total of 42 -- hours per week The first 40 hours will be paid as straight time with the additional 2 -- hours being paid at one and one-half your normal pay rate . Some after-hours or weekend work may arise on an as needed basis. (Section III Handbook) Being at work on time, keeping a regular work schedule, and keeping good records of hours worked is required. Management Structure: This full-time position will report directly to the Project Manager. Job Site Responsibilities

  • Daily job site visits to maintain efficiencies of the projects: Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers, Perform job site observations to communicate back to PM, Comply with and enforce site safety protocols, Maintain running job site punch list
  • Perform punch list labor for minor items, otherwise notify PM to have subcontractor make appropriate corrections/changes
  • Attend site and building permit related inspections, Keep thorough records of each inspection, post to job log
  • Receive deliverables, thoroughly checking content. Notify PM of any discrepancies or issues
  • Manage cleaning crews on site and in houses
  • Maintain orderly site at all times, with expectation of clients walking around site: May require occasional cleaning labor from CA to bring site up to standards for an unexpected visitor or event
  • Maintain erosion control measures and general site logistics
  • Operate on site lift as needed to assist subcontractors in moving materials around the jobsite
  • Pick up materials as needed, to keep subcontractors working Administrative Responsibilities
    • Attend daily meeting (on site or at office) with PM and keep thorough record of meeting
    • Update job logs daily, Update running punch lists daily, Review drawings and takeoffs, Coordinate with PM on quotes, Coordinate with PM on schedule, Coordinate with PM on job related accounts payable Construction labor work
      • Job site organization and cleaning: Manage materials logistics on site, using on site lift when necessary, Clean job site daily (pick up trash and debris), Direct weekly cleaning crew on site clean up and construction cleaning in homes, Maintain erosion control measures
      • Complete punch list work leading up to closing
      • Help unload materials if needed, otherwise direct unloading of materials Holiday Time Off: Employees will receive pay for time off during the following holidays: MLK Day, Presidents Day, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day. (Section VI Handbook) Company vehicle: A company vehicle and company tools will be provided for use during work hours. At the end of each day, the vehicle must be parked at the office, all tools put away and secured, and the vehicle locked up. (Section VII Handbook) Cell phone and laptop: A company phone and company laptop will be provided. (Section VIII) We expect our employees to be reachable by phone, email, and text, so the company provides its employees the proper equipment for that to happen. (Section VII Handbook) Benefits Full-time employees are eligible to receive the benefits described below after six months of employment. (Section V Handbook) Medical Insurance: OCI makes group health insurance benefits available to eligible employees. OCI provides a monthly allowance of $450.00 per employee per month for their personal health insurance premium. Excess health insurance costs, such as coverage for an employee's spouse and/or dependents, can be covered via a payroll deduction. As a condition of this benefit, all employees are required to maintain minimum state-approved insurance through O'Leary Cole insurer. Individual Retirement Account: OCI makes an IRA available to eligible employees. OCI will match an employee's elected contribution to their IRA up to a maximum of 3% of their salary. Flexible Spending Account: OCI makes an FSA available to eligible employees who participate in the Medical Insurance program. OCI will match the contribution of each employee up to a maximum of $500 per program calendar year, starting May 1. Paid Time Off: Eligible employees are entitled to accrue one day of Paid Time Off (PTO) for every 24 days worked. See OCI Employee Handbook for more information.
