thinking skills Description: The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive
member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed
caregivers. They ensure that patients, families, and significant
others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care.
This role practices in a clinical environment supported through a
shared governance model. The framework for practice is guided by a
professional practice model and evidence-based practice and
research. RN competencies are derived from these models and
supported by core values. It is expected that all RN Clinical
Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of
nursing as outlined by the Professional Nurse Practice Act. They
implement the scope of practice and code of ethics standards put
forth by the nursing association. As a member of the patient
services team, the RN Clinical Nurse upholds the voice of the
patient and system policies/procedures while supporting service
excellence goals. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification
of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical
care. Uses evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking,
and ensures that care is individualized. Coordinates care through
effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to
achieving optimal patient care outcomes. Provides
relationship-based, patient-centered care consistent with
population-specific characteristics. Partners with patients and
significant others in all aspects of care, keeping them updated and
making patient goals central to the plan of care. Practices using
current clinical standards. Teamwork and Collaboration: Coordinates
the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that
promotes a professional care delivery model. Demonstrates teamwork
and collaboration, practicing in a fiscally responsible manner.
Participates and supports performance improvement initiatives
inclusive of all stakeholders. Promotes an inclusive clinical
environment and supports shared governance at all levels.
Professional Development and Initiative: Completes all initial and
ongoing professional competency assessments and required education.
Serves as a preceptor and or mentor for other professional nurses
and staff. Evidence-Based Practice and Research: Promotes
evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance
improvement. Participates in activities such as value analysis to
evaluate patient care products. Upholds all policies and procedures
within organizational standards, including legal, regulatory, and
accreditation requirements. Participates in data collection and
addresses practice questions using appropriate resources. Resources
and Support: Proactively plans for the care of patients across the
continuum while giving direct patient care. Participates in
developing protocols and procedures in collaboration with care
managers to achieve best practice outcomes. Supports the efficient
and effective use of human and material resources. Performs other
duties as assigned and complies with all organizational policies
